Increase in spending as income rises? Yeah, because who wouldn’t want to treat themselves after working their butts off? ‘Avoid lifestyle creep’, they say. What, so I’m supposed to live like a monk while I swim in cash like Scrooge McDuck? These self-righteous financial advice givers clearly have no idea what it’s like to actually enjoy life in small doses.

Let’s face it, nobody’s waiting to trip over themselves and invest every damn cent of their salary hike into some magical retirement fund. They have zero right to sneer at a bigger TV or a slightly nicer dinner. Apparently spending money on things that bring you joy is some sort of cardinal sin. Get a grip, if people want to bask in the warm glow of their new 70-inch flatscreen while eating their gourmet popcorn, let them.

One day, when everyone’s hoarding cash for a rainy day that’s never going to come, they might realize life’s passing them by. But hey, who am I to judge? Whatever. I’m done.
