how’s everyone suddenly a business genius?
So, I’ve been scrolling through my usual feeds when I stumbled across this deluge of side-hustlers and online business enthusiasts. It’s like everyone’s suddenly a business genius since they mastered… what? Some mystical arts of dropshipping? (Cue eyeroll)
Honestly, it’s everywhere. People are swearing by their laptops as if investing in silicone keyboard covers will manifest dollars. Anyway, dropshipping seems to be the buzzword. It’s got everyone acting like they’re too good for a 9-to-5 now.
From what I pieced together, it’s pretty much a digital-age version of those cheesy infomercials from the 90s—just fewer hair perms. And the thing is, it almost makes sense until you dive into the excess of neon-highlighted headers screaming about ‘financial freedom’. I wandered through an odd corner of the internet where dropshipping successes and failures lived side by side. Spoiler alert: it’s more complicated than slapping a logo onto a product.

Don’t even get me started on the skills you apparently gotta ‘master’. They say SEO is the fine wine of this trade, except now it’s been chugged by everyone thinking they can outsmart Google’s algorithms. I laugh thinking about all the keyword starters like ‘cheap but awesome dog toys’—I mean, who types this?
Plus, they emphasize mastering digital marketing, and I’m like, mastering a digital beer might be easier at this point. There’s always that ‘build your brand’ stuff too like it’s going out of style, just picturing people spending hours curating the perfect Instagram color palette while cramming their desks with empty coffee mugs.

Also, apparently patience isn’t a virtue—they want it yesterday or sooner. So, let’s see, coding, storytelling, a sprinkle of psychology to manipulate… sorry, I mean ‘engage’ customers. Sometimes it feels more like prepping for a mind-control seminar than running an online shop.
Anyway, for now, I’ll be sifting through this endless sea of digital entrepreneurship advice while cuddled in my PJs. I’ve concluded that I’m pretty sure half these folks still don’t really know what they’re doing. My eyes still hurt. I need coffee. Ugh.
